I enjoy the challenge of integrating a client’s wishes into a piece while making sure the final result has a pleasing design and is, of course, highly functional. Sometimes I employ metal and glass in my work, but by far my favorite medium to work with is wood, especially walnut and maple, because there is a warmth and energy to it. The knots, variable grain, shifting colors, checks, rays, and other “imperfections” are what make it a wonderful material to work with. These characteristics can draw your eye across a piece, and when something is designed and built well, it entices you to touch it. People who come to my shop inevitably run their hands across a project I am working on. There is something magnetic about the sweep of a curve or the feel of a smoothed surface. If you work with me my hope is that as the years pass, your piece continually evokes that same reaction in you.
